The relay was a special event.  I wanted to go hard both for myself, and for my team who were counting on me.  I was teamed up with Calvin Bates, and Anders Hanson.  We warmed up together, and then went to get our race skis.  However, something went wrong with our racing order.  The order was supposed to be Calvin, Anders, me, but it was entered Anders, me, Calvin.  Right before the start, they threw Calvin out of the start, gave his bib to Anders, gave Anders’s bib to me, and gave my bib to Calvin.  Anders had basically no time to prepare, Calvin was really warmed up, and I was too cold before my start.  Anders delivered us in sixth position.  I skied out of the tag zone and started hammering.  I was cold and my muscles felt sluggish, but I tried to increase my turnover, because Calvin was waiting. The 3km course was agonizing because it was too short to go easier, but long enough that sprinting it hurt a ton.  I hammered the last hills and started skiing the straightaway toward the tag zone.  Despite wanting to go collapse in the snow, I increased my turnover, and transitioned to a powerful V2, moving us up to fifth, close to 4th, and far from sixth. Calvin made up the twelve second gap between 5th and 4th and brought us to an amazing 4th place finish.  It was a really fun and intense race and I was happy to have such great team mates.

The JN dinner was fun, and after a very long awards ceremony, they announced the biggest award of all: the Alaska Cup.  New England won the cup with a spectacular 1512 points.  The next closest team was Midwest with 1144, and the next closest was Intermountain with 851.  It was awesome to reclaim the cup and show again that New England is the Fastest of the Fast!
